untitled wip

Of all of the WIPs sitting on my flash drive, this is the one I'd like to get back to working on.

fandom: The Baby-Sitters Club
time frame: Post series, during their high school years
featuring: Heather Epstein, Cary Retlin, Dorianne Wallingford, Jason Fox, Jack Hammond (Jackhammer), Gavin Manthorne (G-Man), Jacqui Grant, three adult original characters (two are currently only referenced here)
mentions: Sheila MacGregor, Shira Epstein, Tate James (T-Jam), Logan Bruno, Alan Gray, Pete Black, Mari Drabek
includes: references to The Breakfast Club
cw for: usage of a word that rhymes with witch, references to cheating

As soon as she was sure Sheridan was gone, Heather stood up. "It looks like we have our own production of the Breakfast Club going on," she said excitedly. She rubbed her hands together and grinned. "While Cary may be a prankster/criminal, he's the most athletic of the guys so he gets to be the athlete. Jack gets to be the criminal. Jason of course is the brain. Dorianne is the princess which makes me Ally Sheedy."

"Why do I have this feeling that Heather has been showing up to all the Saturday detentions this year in hopes of the opportunity to reenact a 1980's movie?" Cary asked with an amused smirk. He ducked when Heather threw a pen at him. "Hey Ally Sheedy, don't make me go get the vice principal. I'd hate for us to get into even more trouble with her."

Jason looked up from his book and gave Heather a considering look. "Didn't Ally Sheedy's character show up because she didn't have anything else better to do not because she got caught doing something?" he asked thoughtfully. "If Heather did in fact attend the Saturday detentions in hopes of reenacting the Breakfast Club, it would mean that she didn't have anything else better to do for eight hours. She's probably the closest to an exact characterization of a character in that movie. I certainly didn't keep a weapon in my locker and I know that Dorianne didn't get caught skipping school to go shopping."

"If anyone is the basket case of this group, it would be Heather," Jack agreed, ignoring the glare Heather gave him. He laughed. "I think she made Cary the athlete because she wants to make out with him after we're free."

Heather made a production of moving her stuff to Dorianne's table. "You and Jason do realize that you just admitted that you've seen the Breakfast Club, right?" she said as she opened her backpack and dumped the contents on the table. She had enough food to keep them fed for all eight hours.

Dorianne leaned forward to reach a baggie with brownies in it. "What kind?" she asked.

"Triple chocolate," Heather replied with a shrug. "I figured you'd be coming here today. I thought the backstabbing bitch would be here too, but obviously the school lets her get away with everything because she's the head cheerleader. This isn't the first time she stole someone's boyfriend. I can't believe I ever considered her a friend."

The door opened. "I'm sorry Heather, but I'm afraid your Breakfast Club dreams won't be coming true today," Miss Abernathy, the school's head secretary, said as she entered the library with Gavin Manthorne and Jacqui Grant in tow.

"It's okay Abernathy," Heather said as she tossed the older woman a baggie with cookies in it. She sighed in defeat. "I think I'll make my own version with this group today. Sooner or later Sheridan is going to figure out that those Saturday detention slips are forgeries."

Heather glared at Gavin as Miss Abernathy left. She was pissed that her cousin would even talk to Jacqui after she took the backstabbing bitch's side over hers. Hooking up with her just made things worse. "I would ask you why you are joining us today, but I have a pretty good idea," she said, folding her arms. "Give me one good reason why I should offer you any food."

"Because I'm your cousin and you like me," Gavin said with a shrug. He and Jacqui joined Jack at his and Cary's table.

"Like family loyalty means anything to you. Shira is the only one that has it," Heather scoffed as Cary moved his things over to her table. She turned her back on her cousin and her former friend and handed Cary a big of chips. She put the rest of the food back in her bag. "Sheridan is probably going to make us move to separate tables when she gets back."

"She won't be back for a while," Cary promised with a knowing smirk as he opened his bag of chips. "Mr. Smith promised that he would distract her for us."

Heather smirked back at him. "Good," she said. While having the head janitor on your team wasn't quite the same as having the head secretary on it, she did have to admit that it did have some benefits.

Cary turned to Dorianne. "So," he said, lowering his voice so only her and Heather could hear him. "I have some plans for your and Heather's common enemy and your respective exes. Sheila, Tate, and Logan will be getting their comeuppance. Alan, Pete, and Mari are getting things started while we're here."
