“I can’t exactly show Mr. Spier that I’m worthy of dating his daughter if I’m off at Jacqui’s getting wasted or pulling pranks with Cary there," Alan said to Dorianne and Pete during lunch. The duo had been surprised when Alan explained he didn't have plans to go to the party at Jacqui Grant's house with Cary over the weekend.
“That’s true,” Dorianne said. “It’s totally sweet that you want Mary Anne’s father to be okay with you two dating, but it’s Mary Anne choice to date you, not her father’s.”
“I know that Dori,” Alan said. “But have you ever gotten one of Mr. Spier’s disapproving looks? Those things are intense.”
“They are pretty intimidating,” Pete said. “Granted it wasn’t directed at me, but the secondhand shame I felt was real.”
